Detailed Study of Transportation to the Industrial District

Analysis of the industrial areas to study

Currently, public transportation does not serve Álava or any of their industrial districts in the province. Only some companies in these areas have special transportation services for their workers, and the others must rely on their own transportation. This creates an unnecessary volume of motor vehicle trips with the resulting emissions. The Transit Master Plan for the Territory of Álava Bus Services was designed for these districts but the characteristics of such mobility required a detailed study.

The project objective was to design a public transportation service that reached all areas of Álava.

From the characterization of the industrial companies (number of workers, working hours, origin, etc..) and transportation services companies (routes, passengers, schedules, etc..), BCNecologia established the characteristics of demand for mobility to these centers. The proposal integrated this service within the existing public transportation system (regular bus proposed intercity train, etc..) while taking appropriate measures, for example adjusting schedules, shuttle bus, transfer points, etc. Other important elements for public transportation to industrial areas included: parking management, promotion of car sharing and an increase in public transportation use.
